Write a 5- to 7-page Policy Memo advocating for a specific change in U.S. energy policy. Policy Memos are a specific kind of document: Basically, you’re trying to write a persuasive argument, directed at a policymaker, on behalf of a certain course of action. They’re not long (remember, policy makers are short on time, what with all the fund raising and the like…), so there’s not much room for fluff. Thus, it’s best to use very straightforward language.

You’ll need the following sections (ideally divided into subheadings):

Title Page
Executive Summary (1 or 2 paragraphs)
Background: What is the problem? Why is it important? How did it come about? Who are the stakeholders? (hint: this is where that pesky problem-identification problem should be helpful)
Policy Critique: What has been done about this problem so far? Why is it inadequate/not getting the job done? What are other available options, and why do they suck?
Policy Recommendations: What SPECIFIC policy action are you recommending? The more specific, the better.
Challenges: What challenges are likely to come up in implementing this policy? Who is NOT going to like this policy change?
Bibliography and in-text citations absolutely required!
