Clearly explain the problem or situation
Offer a clear and specific thesis identifying the student’s attitude or opinion regarding the topic
Offer clear and specific evidence to support the argument
Carefully choose a tone and attitude while considering the audience
Avoid alienating the audience
Essay must be at least 5 full pages in length (not including Works Cited page).
Essay must be typed and in MLA format.
MLA format includes: MLA heading, 1 inch margins, header with last name and page numbers, typed in 12 point font (preferred Times New Roman), double-spacing, paragraph indentions
Must be in multi-paragraph essay format (Introduction with thesis, at least 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion)
Student MUST use outside sources to support the argument; however, quotes, paraphrases, and summaries from outside sources should account for NO more than 15% of the paper. The bulk of the paper must be the student’s words, attitudes, and opinions towards the topic.
All quotes, paraphrases, and summaries must be properly punctuated, should be fully integrated, and must have accurate in-text citations.
All sources used (cite, quote, paraphrase) must be documented on a Works Cited page using MLA 8th edition format.
Wikipedia or Encyclopedias are NOT allowed as sources!
