Respond to one of the following prompts. A counterargument is required.

1. In Confessions, Augustine concludes that faith is a suprarational and mystical connection to God. Christina the Astonishings suprarational behavior made her a famous medieval mystic. Does Christinas mysticism correspond with Augustines understanding of faith?

2. In Part IV of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Gawain (the character) blames women for the sins of men: Yet all were charmed and changed / by wily womankind. / I suffered just the same, / so clear me of my crime (24258). Would the Gawain Poet (the author) and Marie de France agree with this statement? Please use at least two different lais.

3. Confessions, Augustine realizes that virtue and perfection are not the same thing. While humans should strive to be virtuous, only God is perfect. Similarly, Gawain (the character) demonstrates that even the most virtuous knight is not perfect. According to Augustine and the Gawain Poet (the author), what makes a person virtuous?
