Neo-noir and Noir

Phillips/English 102Research Paper Noir/Neo-Noir. In a 2,500 word essay compare the noir aspects of a classic noir story to a neo-noir story. In other words, consider what these more contemporary stories or films have in common with the earlier tales of desperation and hopelessness, as well as their differences. In your evaluation make sure to examine at least three elements of noir style. You may evaluate more if you like. Elements of noir style may include setting, atmosphere, imagery, plot, characterization, sentence style, or diction among others. Cinematic style may also include lighting, cinematography, editing, and lighting. Due dates for all stages of the research paper will be determined. Your paper should cite from at least eight outside sources, include twelve direct quotations and incorporate at least three paraphrases/summaries. A Works Cited page will also be discussed. Films used are Sin city directed by Robert Rodriguez (Neo-noir film) and Detour directed by Edgar G. Ulmer (Noir film)
