The objective of this assessment item is to research best practice examples from around the world where tourism has been used to develop new economic opportunities for remote communities (in either developing or developed countries). The task requires you to prepare a report that incorporates the following:
1. Identify three (3) examples of remote and developing regions that have developed and introduced tourism to their economy. These examples can be from any country around the world.
2. For each of the three examples you include in your report, discuss the background of how tourism was introduced into the community.Focus on how and why the introduction of tourism was successful for the community. Also, consider what were the challenges faced by the community in making this a sustainable economic activity.
3. Your report should present each of the three examples in a separate section. A separate section should be provided at the end of the report that synthesises the key findings from your three examples.
For this assessment task, you may consult and review of a wide range of relevant materials; these may be government/industry/UNWTO reports, academic journal articles, consultancy reports, etc.
Word limit: 3000 words (+/- 10%)
Format: this is a compilation of research findings which should be presented in a report format including executive summary, introduction and conclusion, numbered headings, list of references, etc. APA referencing style should be used.
Number of references: No less than 10. Those seeking to demonstrate their high level research and critical analysis skills would be expected to purposively utilise more than 10 (see marking rubric for further information).
