How can hegemonic masculinity influence men in dance and why do social pressures continue to keep men off the dance floor while showing how social stigmatization is associated with men who dance and how it creates a disconnect that goes along with men wanting to dance ?
In gender studies, hegemonic masculinity is described as a practice that legitimizes men’s dominant position in their societies and justifies the subordination of the common male population and women and other marginalized ways of being a man. In other words, hegemonic masculinity tries to portray men as more powerful than women and other gender identities, and thus dominate in their societies. Hegemonic masculinity influences mens lives in different ways, one of these ways being influencing men in their dancing skills, which helps in setting the parameters for understanding why men dance
