Hopefully you are starting to see that psychology is everywhere! There are some great books available on a wide variety of topics when it comes to psychology. For your final project, you will need to write up an analysis of a book related to a psychological topic, with supporting scientific evidence through journal articles.. The book review and analysis should include:
A brief analysis of the main points of the book. What is the purpose of the book? Why did the author go through the work of writing this book?
A descriptive analysis of how the information in this book relates to psychological concepts we see in the world today. Be thorough and be willing to think outside the box to see the bigger picture and purpose of the book. This should be the bulk of your analysis. Also be sure to include at least 6 unique, specific course terms and concepts in this analysis. This is your chance to recognize formal concepts that we learned in class in general audience reading books.
Also decide which major psychological perspective the author(s) have generated their ideas from. Provide at least three pieces of evidence from the book to support your thoughts.
Book titles to consider are the following:
Evicted by Matthew Desmond
Childhood Disrupted: How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology by Donna Jackson Nakazawa
Coddling of the American Mind: How Good Intentions and Bad Ideas are Setting Up a Generation for Failure by Greg Lukianoff and Jonathan Haidt
In addition to the book analysis, you will also need to find 3 scholarly, peer reviewed journal articles that either support or contradict the claims made in the book. The journal articles you select may give a different perspective on the topic, may offer a scholarly summary of the topic, or may offer different results completely on the topic. You should integrate the journal articles into your paper to either support or refute the book author’s information. Be sure to include in-text citations and a reference page in APA format.
